Farris-Stone Ranch Featuring San Jo Kid Lena and Kid Malone Welcome to Farris-Stone Ranch, home of San Jo Kid Lena and Kid Malone. We are located southeast of Kansas City by roughly 60 miles. The performance horses that we primarily raise are reining and reined cow bred. We feel this offers a greater selection of bloodlines for each discipline and it allows us to choose from a larger pool of quality stallions - one of the ways we keep our program diversified in the bloodlines, without excessive close up line breeding.

We purchase or raise all of our broodmares. We choose what we feel will have some of best bloodlines close up, out of proven dams and sires or granddams and grandsires. A mare that has not had the opportunity to be shown will not be overlooked, as many a good to great horse have been lost in the private and sale ring shuffle.

We also try to gear our choices more to the diluted colors of Duns, Buckskins, Creamy Duns and of course the very sought after and coveted grulla colors. We try very hard to match up the genetics to carry forward with the performance, desire to please, and colors that will catch the eye and give the horse that "Arena Presence and Performance" that everyone desires and wishes they had in their barn or at their trainers.

Broodmares and foals are all free range with plenty of free choice brome hay, supplemented with extra feed and mineral barrels all year long. We also maintain a band of reproductively healthy recipient mares or surrogate mares for our embryo transfer program, which has been very successful with help and expert guidance of our vet Dr. Randy Huenefeld. Our foals are all imprinted at birth and are handled daily until they are strong enough to join the main herd. They, and their dams, are allowed in at night to stalls for extra feed, rest and attention as needed. Weaning usually takes place at 4 to 5 months of age, eating grass, hay and grain. All foals will be current on vaccinations, wormed and trimmed by the farrier. They will be halter trained and people friendly.
